An Experiment in Doubleweave

—

The Warpsters Study Group is beginning a study of doubleweave.  Most of us are using Jennifer Moore’s Doubleweave book as inspiration.  This book gives us instructions for creating:

  • 4 harness doubleweave samplers
  • 8 harness doubleweave samplers
  • 4 harness double rainbow sampler
  • 8 harness double rainbow sampler
  • and a host of other fabulous projects

Most group members are working on samplers at the moment.  Sharon Grubb has already made a beautiful doubleweave shawl using 20 Lunatic Fringe Spectrum colors.

The pictures below show just a bit of our early exploration.

After completing Jennifer Moore’s Double Rainbow workshop Sharon was inspired to weave her Full Spectrum shawl.  It is a two-block doubleweave in 10/2 perle cotton that rotates the 20 Tubular Spectrum colors in both warp and weft.   The colors rotate through the warp with 4 colors in each 1” block, using her double rainbow technique in which each time you change the block, you drop the first color and add a new one.

There is more to come!  Tune in again later for more photos as we make more progress.
